Transition Planning: NED Masterclasses

Introduction

Climate transition plans are becoming increasingly needed to gain access to capital, ensure business efficiency, comply with market and regulatory asks and support a transition to net zero. However, companies face barriers to developing and implementing plans which align with and support their overall business strategy.

Directors find themselves tasked with establishing how to capitalise on the business opportunities presented by net zero and guiding the transition, moving this from a compliance issue to a commercial imperative.

As part of its Transition Planning series, we are partnering with Chapter Zero to run a series of interactive masterclasses for FTSE 350 non-executive directors.

Masterclass series overview

Transition Planning Masterclass #1: Transition planning and your role

Thursday 13 February 2025, 14:00 - 18:00

The first session in our interactive masterclass series will explore transition planning and the role of the non-executive director (NED). We will cover what transition planning is (and isn’t), how the expectations of the NED are developing in relation to climate, and the core concepts related to transition planning, including key frameworks, advanced practices and approaches to reporting.

Transition Planning Masterclass #2: Putting it into practice

Tuesday 25 March 2025, 14:00 - 18:00

The second session in our interactive masterclass series will explore transition plans in practice. We will discuss top tips and typical challenges and pitfalls to watch for, as you review, assess and challenge transition plans, using real life examples.

We will be joined by guest speaker Ruth Cairnie, Chapter Zero Supporting Chair and Chair of Babcock International Group.

Transition Planning Masterclass #3: Beyond the boardroom

Thursday 24 April 2025, 14:00 - 18:00

The third session in our interactive masterclass series will explore taking transition planning beyond the boardroom. We will cover how to build alignment behind transition plans across organisations, the skills required to confidently communicate to key stakeholders on transition planning, and potential implications beyond climate, integrating nature, social, and other related topics that non-executive directors (NEDs) are expected to have a point of view on.

We will be joined by guest speaker Mark Tucker, Chapter Zero Supporting Chair and Chair of HSBC.
